Monterey Bay Sailing offers instruction to aspiring sailors. Our US Coast Guard licensed Captain and ASA (American Sailing Association) Certified Instructors will help you hone your skills and confidence at the helm and in crew positions. 

On the water classes have a maximum of 3 students to ensure that every sailor has ample time at the helm and crew positions.  Our driving passion is sailing oceans and we strive to share that with mariners of all ages and experience levels.  Classes are custom tailored to suit your boat, your interests, your experience, and your crew.  If you are not sailing at the level you want to be, let Monterey Bay Sailing get you there.  We offer the following classes in sailing:

Intro to Sailing and Seamanship Course:
Four hours of on the water instruction to introduce you to the world of sailing.

Basic Keel Boat:
15 hours of instruction split on the water (11 hrs) and in the class (4hrs).  Learn the fundamentals of crewing 20'-30' tiller boats.  This class prepares you to take the ASA Basic Keel Boat exam if desired. 

Basic Coastal Cruising:
15 hours of instruction split on the water (11 hrs) and in the class (4hrs).  Build on the skills from Basic Keel Boat Class and advance to 30'-34' tiller boats.  Prepares you for ASA Basic Coastal Cruising exam if desired. 

Basic Sailing and Seamanship Package:
32 hours of instruction split on the water and in class.  Includes Intro to Sailing, Basic Keel Boat and Basic Coastal Cruising materials. Prepares you for ASA Keel Boat and Coastal Cruising exams if desired.

Bare Boat Chartering:
15 hours of instruction split on the water (11 hours) and in class (4hours).  Builds on previous skills and prepares you for private boat rentals both here in Monterey as well as in tropical locations.  Prepares you for the ASA Bare Boat Chartering exam if desired. 

Complete Sailing Package:
42 hours of instruction split on the water and in class.  Includes instruction from Basic class through Bare Boat Chartering.  Prepares you for Basic Keel boat, Coastal Cruising, and Bareboat ASA exams if desired.

• Monterey Bay Sailing's 30' yacht is boarded at Old Fisherman's Wharf.

• Departure times are customized and may vary pending on weather conditions.

• Advance reservations are appreciated and a 48-hour cancellation policy applies.

• Please wear light colored flat-soled shoes and dress warmly with layers.
